SEPTEMBER

Sept 8 OMSC FALL RECEPTION: The Fall Reception of the Overseas Ministrie Study Center (OMSC) will be held Wednesday, September 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at OMSC, 490 Prospect Street, New Haven, CT. Sept 8 AWANA REGISTRATION: The First Baptist Church of Ansonia is now accepting registrations through September for their AWANA Club starting Sept. 8. AWANA is an international program that meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the church, 235 Prindle Ave., Ansonia. It is dedicated to helping churches and parents raise children and youth to know, love, and serve Christ. Age appropriate programs, dynamic fun, safe environment, games, and new friendships are formed. It runs with the school calendar and gives young parents a night out. Minimal yearly cost. Sept 10  COFFEE HOUSE MINISTRY: Good Friday's Coffee House re-opens Friday, Sept. 10, with the  R&B/Rock 'N Roll music of "In Sight," from 8 to 10 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 208 Meadow Street, Naugatuck, CT. Sept 11 TAG SALE: Christian Heritage School will host a giant tag sale Saturday, September 11, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 575 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT. Sept 11 JEWISH BIBLE STUDY: Mikvah Israel, a Bible Study of Messianic teachings and outreach to Jews and Gentiles to show that we are one in the Body of Messiah. Sept 11-12 APPLE FESTIVAL: St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Monroe will hold an Apple Festival Sat.,  Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival offers crafts, food, plants, children's games, apple-related items, and more. Sept 18 BENEFIT WALK-A-THON: The Second Annual Clinton Salsman Walk-a-thon will be held Saturday, September 18, at 10:30 a.m. rain or shine, at The River Walk, starting at BJ's in Ansonia.  The event will benefit the Summerfield United Methodist Church's Scholarship and Teen Challenge Sponsorship Programs.

Sept 21 FOCUS ON THE FAMILY TOUR: Focus on the Family will host a Celebrate Family Tour event Tuesday, September 21, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at The Hammerstein at Manhattan Center, 311 West 34th Street, New York, NY 10001. The event will feature Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, John Fuller, Dr. John Trent, and Christian comedian Jeff Allen. This is a free event, but you must register for tickets at the Focus on the Family web site.

Sept 24 BENEFIT BANQUET: The Family Institute of Connecticut's Second Annual "Standing in the Gap" Fund-raising Banquet featuring Gary Bauer, President of American Values and Campaign for Working Families, and former Presidential candidate, will be Friday, September 24, from 7 to 9:45 p.m. at Trumbull Marriott, 180 Hawley Lane, Trumbull, CT. Sept 25 SUKKOT UNITY IN MESSIAH CONCERT: Congregation Simchat (SIM-kaht) Yisrael of West Haven,  Gateway Christian Fellowship of West Haven, and Cornerstone Christian Center of Milford will be participating in a Sukkot (suh-KOHT)  2010 Unity Concert Saturday, September 25, from 5 p.m.  to 8 p.m. at the Palace Street/Oak Street Pavilion, Savin Rock, West Haven, CT. The unity event will include music by the Echad Music Group, a dramatic presentation by Rob Styler, church music, testimonies, and prayer. The event is free, but people are asked to bring non-perishable food items to help support the Jewish Family Service food bank of Westville.Jews who believe in Messiah Yeshua and Christians are invited to share in this special unity event. OCTOBER

Oct 2 FOCUS ON THE FAMILY SMALL GROUP LEADER TRAINING FOR THE TRUTH PROJECT :  A  Small Group Leader Training Seminar for Focus on the Family's The Truth Project  will be held Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Door of Hope Community Church, 120 Church Street (Route 68) in Yalesville, CT (Exit 66 off of Wilbur Cross Parkway). This leadership training conference equips small group leaders to use an innovative DVD-based small group curriculum to practically and personally re-introduce believers to the character and nature of God while seeking to instill a systematic and comprehensive Christian worldview within the body of Christ.  Cost is $99.00 per attendee or married couple (one DVD set provided per person/couple). DONATION OF CRUTCHES 4 AFRICA: Church on the Rock, New Haven, in conjunction with Crutches 4 Africa, is sponsoring a collection of crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Do you enjoy helping animals with special needs? The Hope Alliance for Animals, Inc. is a Christian-based sanctuary for special needs cats in New Haven County. CHILDBIRTH CLASSES:  Free childbirth classes for pregnant teens and young adults up to age 21 are offered in a free eight-week program at Milford Hospital. Info and reservations: 203-876-4285.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MENTORING:  The "Across Ages Mentoring Program" is looking for caring adults ages 45 and older to share two hours a week with a middle school child in activities such as fishing, building something, playing catch, or other kid-friendly activity. DONATIONS FOR MINISTRY REQUESTED:  Taste N See Outreach Ministries, Inc. of Bridgeport is in dire need of donations of furniture and household appliances, clothing for men, women, and children, and vehicles in working condition, as well as financial donations. WOMENS' CRAFTING FELLOWSHIP:  Join the women of Seymour Foursquare Gospel Church for their monthly crafting fellowship "Crossing Paths" every second Saturday of the month, between 7 and 9 p.m. Bring your favorite craft project or hobby and enjoy lively, uplifting conversation and refreshment. CLIFFORD W. BEERS GUIDANCE CLINIC: Clifford W. Beers Guidance Clinic, a non-profit child mental health facility in New Haven which helps children, adolescents, adults and families who have been sexually, physically, and mentally abused, is requesting donations of clothing, hygiene products, electronics, board games, toys, arts and crafts...anything to keep families warm or put a smile on a face. DONATE YOUR VEHICLE FOR A TAX DEDUCTION:  Residents in Fairfield County can get a tax deduction by donating their old car to the Christian Counseling Center of Norwalk. Call the center and have the vehicle towed away. Donors will be given a donation receipt to use in reporting the tax deductible gift. Donors are entitled to deduct up to $500 in their income tax returns.  If the car is worth more than $500, it will be sold, and a receipt stating the gross amount will be mailed to the donor within 30 days after sale. The center will receive $150 for each car to use to subsidize the cost of counseling for persons unable to afford the fee. Info: Rose at (203) 846-4626, ext. 300.

NURSING HOME MINISTRY INSTRUCTION: Many people living in America's Care Centers today were a part of what has been called "The Greatest Generation." They need visitors -- they need friends -- they need the Lord. To help you or your church get started as an Ambassador for Christ in this needy area, the SonShine Society is offering a free step-by-step guide to Nursing Home Ministry. PUPPY RAISERS NEEDED: Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), a national non-profit organization that breeds, trains, and places assistance dogs with children and adults with disabilities, is looking for volunteer puppy raisers in Connecticut.
